Welcome Aboard, Frank!

We’re pleased to announce that Frank Tazzara has joined our team as a carpenter. Frank is an East-coast native (Connecticut, to be exact,) and graduated from Unity College in Maine with a degree in Environmental Education. Frank has 14 years of carpentry experience, including 6 years as a general contractor in Montana. Frank has earned the Certified Lead Renovator designation through the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Certified Green Professional designation through the National Association of Home Builders. When he’s not producing beautiful kitchens and baths, Frank enjoys mountain biking, scuba diving at the coast with his wife, and fly fishing.

Emma and Joel Kirk, owners of Kirk Design and Construction, have both earned the designation of Certified Graduate Remodeler through the National Association of Home Builders. To earn the designation, the Kirks completed coursework presented by experts throughout the country, including at the 2011 International Builders Show in Orlando, Florida. The knowledge the Kirks gained from attaining these designations will help Kirk Design and Construction excel in its specialty of kitchen, bathroom, and other residential remodeling design/build projects.

Super Sun Tunnel

This bathroom is in the back of a daylight basement. With a story above preventing a skylight and nowhere to put a window, this bathroom would have been banned from natural light… except for some clever thinking on the homeowner’s part. He knew there was an old, unused laundry chute connecting this bathroom to the upper floor. So we were able to connect this opening through to the attic and

This sun tunnel sends bright light all the way from the roof to the basement!

squeak in an extra-long sun tunnel (also called solar tubes by some manufacturers.) The tunnel diffuser is shown in the upper, right corner of the picture (it looks like an over-sized recessed light.) The inside of the sun tunnel is super shiny and bounces bright light all the way down from the roof. The result is a terrific, and cost-effective way to light up a room.

As part of this kitchen remodel we also installed matching cabinet drawers in an existing bay window. The resulting window seat is visually connected to the kitchen, and provides easily-accessible storage.

International Builders Show!

Here we are at the 2011 International Builders Show in Orlando, Florida. We’re in one of the new Sterling tub/shower units. Sterling is a Kohler brand that offers a great bang for your buck… and they’re also coming out with some more stylish grab bars, which I think there’s a real market need for. We saw tons of new kitchen, bath, and building products which we’re excited to incorporate into upcoming projects!

This new frameless Agalite Estate shower door makes a world of difference in this compact guest bathroom.
